Bradfield College batsman/gloveman Andrew MacEwen struck a career-best 155 and virtually half the Hampshire Pathway XIs total of 314 in the rain ruined ECB Under-18 County Championship opener against Sussex YC at Blackstone.
Alton pair Jude Wright (55) and Sam Ruffell (39) made their respective marks before MacEwen, left, who struck four sixes and 18 fours in his century, joined Zac Basey (23) in a 123-run eighth wicket stand which lifted Hampshire from a worrying 137-7.
A three-wicket return by Oli Cordery (3-37) helped bowl Sussex out for 229. before Wright (81), Ruffell (48*), Sam Ashman (38) and Ben Mayes (25*) took Hampshire to a second innings 196-2 when the match was abandoned.
Hampshire's next three-day U18 match is against Middlesex YCs ay Winchester College, starting on Tuesday, 1100.
