Teenager Tyler Bradley celebrated his third successive four-wicket return as Basingstoke & North Hants continued their remarkable revival with a comprehensive eight-wicket thrashing of Totton & Eling, the overnight Southern Premier Division 1 leaders, at May’s Bounty.
Bradley led the way with a 4-18 return as Totton were skittled for 76 – a total Basingstoke, who won a crucial toss, polished off inside 13 overs to record a fourth straight win.
Bradley, whose 20-victim haul makes him the leading wicket taker in Division 1, struck a crucial early blow by trapping James Taylor for a duck.
The Neal brothers, Ash and Brad (2-8) combined to remove former Berkshire all-rounder Harry Stephens before Bradley had Harrison Clarke caught behind by George Metzger, whose return to the club after two months with Havant is a massive boost.
Two more strikes by Dan Belcher (2-8) dropped Totton deeper into the mire at 38-6 before Oli Thomas (22 not out) got his head down and ground out some useful runs.
Bradley’s second spell saw two more wickets fall at 56 before the innings closed at 76 all out.
Ironically, nine of the 18 runs Bradley conceded were wides, the 19-year old conceding: “It wasn’t the easiest conditions in which to bowl. The ball did a lot more than I expected and was hard to control.
“We obviously bowled really well as a team and stayed on top the whole game. It was a decent wicket, but was doing bits side to side for the seamers.”
Besides having Metzger back on board, another significant bonus for Basingstoke is Sainsbury's top fruit and veg salesman Matt Deadman starting to enjoy his game again and running into a bit of form.
The talented left-hander lost Greg Donaldson early, but led Basingstoke home with an undefeated 40, which included a six and five fours. Nectar points galore then !
Ash Neal made 21 before Basingstoke clinched a fourth successive win, which takes them to fourth place in the Division 1 table.
