Alton reduced National Village Cup holders Calmore Sports to 48-7 before thrashing their Southern Premier Division 1 promotion rivals by eight wickets at the Jubilee Ground.
South African Bash Walters (3-30) led the way as Calmore lost the first three wickets for 19, steadied through Shawn Johnson (20), only to slump again to 48-7 before Josh Metcalfe (71) and Ben Perry (42) produced a century eighth-wicket stand to give the visitors a fighting chance.
Metcalfe, who hit 104 for Totton & Eling seconds back in 2014, has joined Calmore from Paulton and, like against Grampound Road in the previous round, will be a significant boost for Mark Lavelle’s side in Sunday’s Village Cup quarter-final against Goatacre at Loperwood Park on Sunday, 1pm.
He hit eight boundaries in his 87-ball knock, adding 107 with Perry as Calmore recovered to post 186-8.
Any hopes Calmore had of defending that total were promptly blown away by Dan Harris, who savaged 19 runs off one over by Oxford University Blue Ben Fisher and Metcalfe whose three overs went for 24.
Harris blasted ten boundaries in his 30-ball 46, leaving Abhay Gonella all the time he needed to score an unbeaten fifty.
Mark Heffernan ((23) kept the scoreboard ticking before Scott Myers, who had earlier bowled an immaculate spell of ten over one for 13, hit an unbeaten 65. Gonella got into a big hitting mode too, striking two maximums to bring up his half-century.
