Conor Browne cracked a superb unbeaten 96 as Langley Manor put a dent in St Cross Symondians’ seconds British Gas Southern League Division 2 promotion bid with a six-wicket win at Knellers Lane.
He hit two sixes and 14 fours and shared a significant 76-run stand with Steve Harris (39) after the Manor had slipped to 95-4 chasing a St Cross target of 177-9 scored off a rain trimmed 40 overs.
The St Cross total was built around Paul Hawkins (60), Dan Young (33) and Harry Foyle (30), with teenager Elliot Pointing taking 3-35 for the Manor.
Hartley Wintney climbed into a threatening third place above St Cross Symondians after dropping Hambledon deeper into the relegation mire with a four-wicket win at Ridge Meadow.
But Hartley’s victory was far from straightforward as having dismissed Hambledon for 153 (Indy Chakrabarti 34) they plunged to 68-6 (Rhidian Chapman 4-32) themselves.  .
England PD star Dan Reynaldo (4-28) earlier took the bowling credits for HW, but it needed an unbroken stand of 87 between New Zealander Henry Collier, with a six and nine boundaries in an unbeaten 79, and Ben Hyde (35) to get them across the line.
Hartley Wintney are up to third but, having played a game more, are only six points adrift of second placed OTs & Romsey.
Trojans, who visit Hartley Wintney this Saturday, occupy the second from bottom relegation spot after losing by four wickets to Paultons at Stoneham lane.
Peter Lamb’s 5-51 return, coupled with a nap hand of victims for Simon Ennew, left Trojans defending a weak 112 (Waqas Ahmed 25), which Paultons’ overhauled, with Josh Metcalfe hitting 43 not out.
