Richard Kenway hit an unbeaten half-century as Burridge powered their way into the last 16 of the ECB national indoor sixes cricket championships with a comprehensive 97-run qualifier round victory over Goring By Sea.
With Kenway striking 52 not out and Dan Hewitt, Sully White and Dan Stancliffe all making handy contributions, Burridge posted a formidable 172-3 in 12 overs.
Burridge skipper Hewitt suggested: “They were probably a stronger side than the scoreline suggested, but they allowed us to post a massive total with some ‘friendly’ field settings.
“They weren’t familiar with the Ageas Bowl indoor hall. It’s very hard to get yourself back in to the game with that scoreboard pressure.”
Goring, the Sussex champions, keeled over for 75, with Hewitt, Nick McMurray and Stancliffe sharing the six wickets.
“Sully White’s spell was probably the highlight with a maiden in his second over and only going for 12 off his 3,” Hewitt added.
Burridge are now off to Canterbury in two weekends time when they will face either the might of Wimbledon or Broadstairs, whom Sarisbury Athletic beat in last winter’s Lord’s final.
“It’s important we adjust to playing in different indoor halls and individual team plans,” Hewitt continued.
“All in all we were very happy with the win. It was very rounded performance where everyone contributed and now we’re looking forward to Canterbury, where the standard of opposition looks formidable.”
Parley also swept into the regional finals – though Taunton in their case - with a crushing 81-run win over Isle of Wight side Ryde at Hurn.
They piled up 140-3 in 12 overs before rushing the islanders out for 59 (Craig Williams 39), with James Miller taking 3-5.
Shane Green (30) and Ollie Green (27) gave Parley the early impetus, while Alex Hippard (17) and Luke Neil (25) weighed in to put the game beyond Ryde’s reach.
Parley will play either Somerset winners North Petherton or Exeter University in the regional semi-finals at Taunton.
