Centurion Chris Vaughan and teenager George Pardoe set a new record British Gas Southern League partnership as Bashley (Rydal) seconds maintained their Division 3 promotion push with a rain adjusted 59-run win over Fawley at the BCG.
Their stand of 193 was a new third division fourth-wicket record, ironically eclipsing the previous best 186 set by Bashley team-mates Simon Dean and Phil Morris four years ago.
Bashley were 54-3 when the pair came together. Vaughan, pictured by Terry Nash, hit one six and 18 fours in his 124, while more significantly perhaps, Pardoe made 83 (one six and nine fours) in his first game back from a stress fracture of his back.
With Jay Van Wyk smacking a quick fire 29, Bashley went on to post a formidable 291-7 – a total trimmed to 232 and a 33-over run chase by Fawley.
New Zealander Matt Brown made 77 but with veteran Neil Taylor taking 3-36 they finished 59 runs adrift at 163-8.
Bashley remain third in the log, adrift of Waterlooville and 28 points behind leaders Basingstoke & North Hants, who snatched a one-wicket win at Havant II
