Teenage Bashley (Rydal) all-rounder George Pardoe bounced back from the disappointment of missing out on a maiden first innings century in Hampshire’s three-day ECB Under-17 County Championship defeat by Gloucestershire by scoring his first-ever hundred in the second.
Pardoe cut a disappointed figure when he was agonisingly caught out for 93 on Totton & Eling’s run strewn Southern Gardens surface.
But his disappointment turned to elation when he posted a second innings 111 – and gave Hampshire a chance of chasing down Gloucestershire’s demanding 298-run target. Pardoe (left) also took 3-30 bowling his seamers.
The Hampshire youngsters earlier let a chance of victory slip through their fingers as Gloucestershire, with a first innings lead of 36, sank to 111-8 (only 147 ahead) but recovered to make 261.
The highly rated Tom Price spun Gloucestershire to victory with ten wickets in the match and a decisive 6-71 in the second innings.
Scores:
Gloucestershire 369 (Naish 72, Millard 63, Price 53, Gadd 3-2, Pardoe 3-30, Reynolds 3-72) and 261 (Tryfonds 67, Trotman 50, Prest 4-69, Abbas 4-71).
Hampshire 333 (Pardoe 93, Gadd 67, Parratt 42, Price 4-102) and 244 (Pardoe 111, Southon 37*, Price 6-71).
Gloucestershire won by 57 runs.
