A nap hand haul by George Wilson and a highest yet innings of 81 not out by Patrick Lewis swept Bashley (Rydal) seconds to an eight-wicket win over Fawley and into a four point lead over Fair Oak the top of Southern Premier League Cup East 2/3.
If Bashley win their remaining two matches with a decent points haul – they visit Trojans (Saturday) before hosting South Wilts II on September 5 – they should qualify for the Grand Final on September 19.
Wilson’s 5-38 return did the bulk of the damage as Fawley fell from a healthy 61-1 (Brendan Streather 31, Kieron Earl 25) to 92-6 before Neil Taylor and Simon Watkins turned the screw ever more.
Adam Freeman (31) beefed up Fawley’s eventual 159-9 – a target Bashley chased down with seven overs to spare, Will Tripcony and Lewis sharing a 113-run partnership.
Tripcony is the latest Bashley pick-up from Poole Town and Dorset’s youth production line and, at just 16 years of age, looks a decent prospect. The Clayesmore talent made 44 while Lewis creamed 12 boundaries in a delightful 81 not out. Jacob Graham completed the job.

Youngsters Edward Wade and Tom Lewis led the way as South Wilts seconds crushed Hythe & Dibden by 132 runs at Bemerton.
Wade (top left) hit ten fours in a best-yet SL score of 80 and was supported by Joe Cranch (37), George Edwards (21) and later Tom Pearce, who hit an unbeaten 40 as South Wilts scorched to 260-6.
Matt Young (29) and Tom Richards (21) took Hythe’s reply to 85-3 – but the innings collapsed in the face of the off-spin of Tom Lewis (top right), who took 5-15 as the Watersiders dropped to 128 all out.
Old Tauntonians & Romsey are left propping up the table after a ten-wicket thrashing by previously winless Langley Manor – Jack Budd producing a man of the match performance for the winners.
He returned 2-18 off eight overs as OTR struggled to 95-5 before Charlie King (36) and Elliott Ponting (37) enhanced their total to 157-5.
Budd then led the way with an unbeaten 69, partnering Conor Browne (65) as the Manor cruised home with six overs to spare.
