Calmore Sports have landed a plum home tie against West of England Premier League club Goatacre in the ‘round of 16’ Voneus Village Cup at Loperwood Park on Sunday week, July 4.
That’s their reward for another nail biting victory, this time at Cookham Dean, their two-wicket win following previous nail biters at Paultons and, more recently, over Sparsholt in the Hampshire final.
Goatacre, the home base of Hampshire’s Liam Dawson and sibling brother Brad, captain and lead spin all-rounder, lifted the trophy in 1988 and again two seasons later.
Currently top of the WEPL Premier 1 (Wilts/Gloucestershire), Goatacre are guaranteed to bring a sizeable number of supporters to Totton next weekend, giving Loperwood Park a real Village Cup atmosphere.
“They’re a club I know little about, but having a home tie and being able to play in front of a decent sized crowd will be great,” said Calmore skipper Mark Lavelle.
