James Hibberd, pictured by Roy Honeybone in his old South Wilts attire, needs two more wickets to reach 500.
It’s last chance saloon day for Calmore Sports or New Milton, who simply cannot afford another slip if they are to keep their outside Southern Premier Division 1 promotion prospects alive.
Twenty-six points clear, Totton & Eling are favourites to finish top but, after visiting relegation haunted Andover tomorrow, they finish the season up against Calmore Sports and then the enigmatic Green & Golds at Fernhill.
Lord’s Voneus Village Cup finalists Calmore Sports are set to spring a selection surprise against New Milton at Loperwood Park – the return of an all-rounder with 6,393 SPL runs, 498 wickets and 106 catches to his name.
And James Hibberd will want to bowl at George Watts & Co because he’s only two victims short of the magical 500-wicket haul, a milestone only four other Premier League bowlers have achieved.
Alton’s Julian Ballinger is already past the 600-mark, while Matt Metcalfe, Richard Hindley and now retired Dan Goldstraw have taken a half-century and victims.
Opening bat Will Brewster and emerging off-spinner Liam Carty are both isolating.
Calmore Sports: Lavelle, Bailey, Johns, Taylor, Johnson, Hibberd, Manning, Perry, West, Fisher, Wright.
Basingstoke & North Hants saw their seven-match winning run shattered by Sarisbury Athletic last week and look to restore parity at Church Road, where Rowledge are always difficult to beat, even though opener Jonty Seeborn remains sidelined with a hand injury.
Rowledge: Ben Wish, Ricky Yates, Sam Plater, Jake Wish, Ollie Baker, Zac Le Roux, Olly Ryman, Ryan Littlewood, Will Ryman, Ethan Martin, David Lloyd.
Sarisbury Athletic could put both Andover and St Cross Symondians II down if they beat the Winchester club’s second string at Allotment Road.  They are already 17 points ahead of Andover and 19 clear of St Cross.
It’s essential then an unchanged Andover beats table topping Totton otherwise the lions will stalking the wilderness of third tier cricket in 2022.
Andover: Hooper, Knight, Treagus, Duckworth, Duckworth, Ashman, Birks, Smith, Ayers, Veettil, Adams.
With two of the bottom three clubs to play either side of entertaining Ventnor, Liphook & Ripsley are firmly on course to lift the Southern Premier Division 2 crown.
The leaders, 25 points clear of Hartley Wintney, are  not the sort of team lowly Fawley want to play tomorrow, especially as the oilmen are one of those sides in relegation trouble.
As for the others, Paultons make the equally unenviable crossing to the island – breakfast on the car ferry will be the order of the day ahead of the long drive down to Ventnor, where only Liphook have won this summer.
Second placed Hartley Wintney visit Bashley (Rydal), with Fair Oak entertaining South Wilts II and Waterlooville going to fourth placed OTs & Romsey.
With Hambledon’s visit to Hythe & Dibden called off due to covid issues, all eyes will be on St James’s Park, where Portsmouth & Southsea must beat second placed Hook & Newnham Basics II to remain in the promotion race.
P & S have only played eight times (four more than Fareham & Crofton in the HCL) but, rounding up, are only nine points behind Hook.  Watching the outcome will be Gosport Borough, in action at May’s Bounty against Basingstoke seconds, where promising Hampshire 50s star John Adams will probably shine.
Hook & Newnham Basics: Light, T May, Warner, Love, Neville, Bruin, J Allnutt, Watts, Shore, Gardner, James.
Gosport Borough: Harrop, O Creal, Kitchen, A Adams, C Creal, J Adams, Harris, Taylor, Richards, Robson, Dore.
Seemingly doomed Tichborne Park host Langley Manor, while with Hook and Gosport to face in their last two matches, Purbrook simply must beat Trojans to keep afloat.
