eNewly promoted Calmore Sports have strengthened their grip at the top of British Gas Southern League Division 1.
A 56-run win over Sarisbury Athletic, which coincided with defeats for Basingstoke & North Hants and Bournemouth, has given them a 20-point lad approaching the halfway mark.
They posted a handy 221-7 at Allotment Road before Sarisbury collapsed from a threatening 102-0 to 165 all out, all ten wickets falling for 63 runs.
Steady top order batting enabled Calmore to reach their total – Tam Goodrich (37) and young left-hander Ben Johns (50), pictured, providing the base from which Ben Perry (32) and James Manning (36) were able to push on.
When Sam Floyd (61) and Ricky Rawlins (37) eased Sarisbury’s reply to 102, Calmore came under pressure.
But once Manning (2-23) broke the mould, Calmore regained the initiative with Australian left-arm spinner Jack Rutter (3-25) causing Sarisbury to lose four wickets for three runs and lurch to 137-6.
Dan Croft (4-25) ripped through the tail as Sarisbury crumbled to 165 all out and to a worrying situation, five points below the safely line at the bottom of the table.
