St Cross Symondians are concerned that rain could put paid to their hopes of landing a crucial league cup win over Southern Premier champions Bashley (Rydal) at the Green Jackets tomorrow, 12.30.
Confidence is high in the St Cross camp after last weekend’s impressive Tom Foyle inspired 127-run victory over Bournemouth.
And with Bashley losing a last-ball thriller against Andover, the opportunity is there for St Cross to take a firm grip of the West Premier/Division 1 group – that’s provided they play and can inflict a second defeat on Michael Porter’s side.
The problem is that 2.5mm of rain is due to fall on Winchester between breakfast and tea-time – making it a potentially trying afternoon for the players, who are required to arrive at the game changed and then sit alone in their cars while the rain comes down !
Bashley are strengthened by the return of left-hand batsman Ben Walker (left), “whose quality and experience will be crucial in what is a massive game for us now,” concedes Porter.
St Cross Symondians: T Foyle, Trussler, Stokes, Ellis, Lewis, Bransgrove, H Foyle, Beetham, Brooke, Woolvine, Nicholls.
Bashley (Rydal): Porter, Turner, Tayler, Walker, Fisher, Jacques, G. Wilson, Digby, M. Wilson, Clutterbuck, Crisp.
Lymington, thrashed at Calmore Sports last week, have Terry Crabb replacing Ben Rogers at the top of the order against South Wilts in one of only two designated home league cup matches at the Sports Ground.
Ben Draper skippers South Wilts in a competitive match for the first time, with Ed Freeman wearing the captain’s armband for Lymington.
Lymington: Freeman, Crabb, Cox, Scott, Royan, D Bailey, J Bailey, Robertson, Tollerfield, Ingles, Layman, Sykes.
South Wilts: Peter Rowe, Jack Stearman, Tom Grant, James Hayward, Ben Draper, Raff Hussey, Ben Howgrave-Graham, Will Harries, Steve Warner, James Wade, Matt Burton.
Calmore Sports will be buoyant after their Lymington triumph (in which Ben Johns hit an unbeaten century) and bring in Callum Holloway at New Milton.
Calmore Sports: Johns, Brewster, Holloway, Fisher, Manning, Taylor, Lavelle, Perry, Newton, Stanton, Lepervanche.
Bournemouth host round one winners Totton & Eling.
