Third placed Burridge maintained their interest in the ECB Southern Premier League title chase with a nail-biting 14-run win over the Hampshire Academy on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
They held on as the county youngsters, led by a superb 81 by Hampshire Under-15s captain Tom Prest, left, fell short at 245 chasing down a Burridge total of 259.
The result leaves them 12 points behind leaders South Wilts and three adrift of St Cross Symondians, with five ‘white ball’ 50-over matches left to play.
Burridge began well through Lee Savident (36) and Joe Collings-Wells, whose 72 provided the mainstay of the innings.
A four-wicket spin spell by Felix Organ (4-44) left Burridge an uncertain 177-7.
But the visitors have the lower-order potential to bat deep, the last three wickets adding a critical 82 runs, with Will Steward (26), Sully White (28), Ollie Southon and Rick Ankers making valuable contributions before a big six by Nick McMurray got them to 259.
With half their side back in the pavilion and only 93 (Scott Currie 28) runs on the board, it didn’t look as though the Academy would put up much of a fight.
But belying his tender years, Canford starlet Tom Prest took the game back to Burridge, sharing half-century stands with Tom South (18) and George Pardoe (23) as the Academy reply rose to 199-6.
The Broadstone teen added another 40 with Ajeet Dale (18) before being run out for a superb 91, containing nine fours.
