Fifteen wickets fell to spin on a Havant Park ‘turner’ on which Havant successfully defended 167 to win by 39 runs and end Bashley Rydal’s unbeaten ECB Southern Premier Division start.
Havant pair Richard Hindley (3-10) and Chris Morgan (3-21) bowled a combined 17.2 overs, extracting significant turn and shared six of the wickets as Bashley lost five wickets for nine runs at one stage before being dismissed for 128.
Morgan (45) earlier rescued Havant with the bat after Bashley’s own spin duo Ross Grierson (3-21) and Josh Digby (2-28) had the hosts struggling at 82-7. He eventually fell to the leg spin of Michael Porter (3-28), who arguably should bowl far more than he does.
Bashley reached 63-2 (Richard Jerry 2-28) before Havant’s three–pronged spin attack came to the fore, left-armers Morgan (left) and Graham Burns creating the initial inroads. George Wilson (28) rallied but Hindley ended the resistance at 128 all out.
