Hampshire Seniors’ finished a disappointing fourth in their ECB 50-plus County Championship group and failed to make the cut for the last 16 national phase of the competition.
Skipper Chris Wheeler, left, led the way with 417 runs, scoring the side’s only century of the season against Dorset and making two other 90s.
Basingstoke North Hants all-rounder Keith Harsham also shone, but a single-wicket defeat by Devon, who won after being 88-6 chasing 186, eventually cooked Hampshire’s goose.
Cornwall won the south-west group, but runners-up Dorset – for whom Tim Cowley had a superb all-round match against Hampshire – went through to the last 16 but, minus former Essex captain Paul Pritchard, bowed out to Shropshire in the knockout round.
