A century partnership between Dan Clouting and Tom Mills set up a five-wicket win for Sarisbury Athletic, who chased down Old Tauntonians & Romsey’s 263-6 with 15 balls to spare.
The victory maintained second place in Southern Premier League Division One for Sarisbury, who lie 11 points behind leaders Bournemouth going into the second phase of matches.
Promoted OTs, by comparison, are one of a trio of sides in the bottom four with three wins.
OTs total was largely based around middle-order pair Rob Newman and Stuart Tognarelli, who added 138 after the visitors had dipped to 105-4 (Harry Tulk 40).
They were particularly aggressive in the lead up to the tea interval, with 60 odd runs coming off the last four overs.
Newman, with three maximums and nine fours, finished nine runs short of his century at 93 not out, while Tognarelli 68 included two sixes and seven fours.
Defending 263 on a rock hard Allotment Road surface and scorched outfield was always going to be a trying exercise for OTs and directly Ricky Rawlins (24) drilled five boundaries they were on the back foot.
Clouting (61) and Mills (60) strengthened Sarisbury’s position with their 111-run stand, which set the platform for Josh Hill (45) and Andrew Ireland (23) to complete the run chase with time to spare.
