CHAMPIONS FRUSTRATED BY GALLANT BURRIDGE LAST PAIR

23/6/2017

Burridge last pair Nick McMurray and Sully White put up the barricades for almost an hour to frustrate Havant and eventually deny them an ECB British Gas Southern Premier League victory.
They shut up shop for the last 13 overs as Burridge forced a draw at 148-9, having dismissed Havant for 223.
They only managed to chisel out 11 runs in that period, but before McMurray and White came together six Burridge batsmen had failed to trouble the scorer.
Earlier, Havant lost two early wickets before Ben Walker, with a workmanlike 79, and Chris Stone (51) added 82 in a stand which largely underpinned their eventual 223 all out.[1]
Dan Stancliffe (3-39) did the early damage, but it was left-armer Brighton Mugochi (5-64) who took a liking to Havant’s spin friendly surface with the day’s best figures.
Burridge, runners-up champions Havant last season, made a similarly uncertain start, but Joe Collings-Wells (63) and latterly Mugochi (44) steadied the ship.
Chris Morgan’s left-arm spin yielded a 4-36 return, but having had Burridge 137-9, Havant were unable to part the visitors’ last pair.
