Havant pair Ben Walker and Stuart Ransley set a new 250-run record ECB British Gas Southern Premier Division second-wicket partnership against a youthful Hampshire Academy on the Ageas Bowl Nursery Ground.
But despite posting a daunting 315-3, Havant didn’t give themselves enough time to bowl the Academy out and the match ended in a draw with the youngsters holding out at 218-6.
The left-handed Walker hit 112 (14 fours) and Stuart Ransley a Premier Division best 136 which contained four sixes and 12 boundaries.
Their partnership surpassed the previous best 248 shared by former Hampshire pair Derek Kenway and Lee Savident for Totton & Eling against Portsmouth ten years ago.
Havant called a halt in the 61st over, giving themselves a maximum of 60 overs to bowl the Academy out on a benign white shaven surface.
When Richard Jerry (3-41) removed Academy trio Ben Duggan (20), Jake Goodwin (29) and Fletcha Middleton to leave James Tomlinson’s fledging youngsters 73-3, Havant appeared on a winner.
But when a new kid on the Academy blocks, Cole Campbell, from Hampton School, appeared at the crease, Havant’s prospects began to flounder.
Campbell struck a 15-boundary 94, sharing a century partnership with Patrick Holly (34 not out) to take the Academy to stumps at 218-6 (Richard Hindley 3-48).
