Charlie King and Danny Mogg produced an unbroken half-century last-wicket partnership to steer Old Tauntonians & Romsey to a dramatic one-wicket win over local British Gas Southern League Division 2 rivals Paultons at the Romsey Sports Centre.
OTs, in desperate straits at 54-6 chasing Paultons’ 186-6, rallied through match winner King and Joe Vaughan (29), but were still facing defeat at 140-9 when the last pair came together.
But King, with a match winning 79 not out, and Mogg (15 not out) chiselled out the 50 runs which got OTs across the line off the last ball.
Peter Lamb (3-26) did the initial damage for Paultons, with left-arm spinner Andrew Denney (3-34) causing further grief.
Earlier, Josh Metcalfe (42) and Scott Hills (36) laid the foundation but it was largely due to Australian James Bills (68) that Paultons reached 186-6.
Paul Hawkins (73 not out) and former Hampshire cricketer Jason Laney (64) shared a century stand for a comfortable seven-wicket win for St Cross Symondians II at Hambledon.
Spin pair Dave Orchard (4-12) and Matt Perry-Lewis (3-36) took the lion’s share of the wickets as Hambledon, struggling on the fringe of the relegation zone, were dismissed for 181 (Spencer le Clerq 43).
