Bournemouth’s Dom Clutterbuck emerged leading wicket-taker in the inaugural World University T20 tournament in Trinidad & Tobago.
Playing for Oxford MCCU, the Bournemouth left-arm spinner finished with 11 wickets and an economy rate of 6.2 – his team reached the final, where they were beaten by a powerful Combined Colleges and Campuses side, which included Barbados and players from the Caribbean Premier League in its ranks.
Clutterbuck, who will again travel back from Oxford to play for newly promoted Bournemouth in the ECB Southern Premier Division this summer, found himself up against university sides from India, Pakistan, the USA and the West Indies.
“The tournament was designed to engage young aspiring international cricketers, first class players and students of the game, providing a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for them to compete amongst their peers on a global platform,” he explained.
“I thought the T20 Tournament was a great success. I was pleased with my 11 wickets and Oxford also had the highest run scorer.
“Every game was streamed live, with commentators, and was very professionally organised by Daren Ganga, the former West Indies Test batsman.”
Now back and shivering in the UK, Clutterbuck’s next aim is to secure a regular place in the Oxford MCCU team, whose opening 2019 fixture is, ironically, against Hampshire at The Parks on Sunday March 31.
Bournemouth launch their Premier Division campaign against Basingstoke & North Hants at May’s Bounty on May 4.
