Compton & Chandler’s Ford cricketers plan to use the longest day of the calendar year on Saturday for a ‘sunrise to sunset’ fundraising event.
They plan to be at the Memorial Playing Fields ground in Shepherds Lane, Compton from 5am to 9pm when families and friends can book coaching sessions, enjoy net practice and/or take part in a boundary walk – with social distancing maintained at all times.
Coaching will be between 10am and 5pm.
“Our goals are to have members and guests playing in both nets for the whole day, and to manage enough cumulative laps of the boundary (500 in total) to walk the distance to Lord’s and back,” explained CCF cricketer Martin Halfacre, one of the organisers.
County Division 2 champions last season, Compton & Chandler’s Ford would normally have been putting four adult sides out in the Hampshire League on Saturday.
But with recreational cricket currently suspended, they are taking the opportunity to raise much needed funds at a time when the club has virtually nil income.
Compton & CF are asking would-be participants to book in advance by either contacting Martin Halfacre (comptonandchandlersfordcc@gmail.com) : club website www.comptonandchandlersfordcc.co.uk
