Hampshire League cricketers have boosted the Royal British Legion's Poppy Appeal to the tune of almost £140 following a 'fines session' at the past weekend's County and Women's Division presentation awards dinner at the Ageas Bowl.
League chairman Denis Emery explained: 'Basically, we fine everyone £1 who turns up at the dinner without wearing a poppy - and we donate the proceedings to the RBL.
'It's a bit of fun on the night everyone goes home with their poppy having donated to such a wonderful cause.
'The first of our award dinners is always at Remembrance Weekend, so we are able to make a donation every year at this time.'
