Recent past King Edward VI captain Jovan Dhariwal (left) enjoyed the local Southern Premier League bragging rights when Cambridge University thrashed their Oxford counterparts by 249 runs in the annual Varsity Match at Fenners. Calmore Sports all-rounder Ben Fisher (late of South Wilts) played for the Dark Blues, who also included former Hampshire Academy seamer Chris Searle.
Dhariwal, who played his junior cricket at Compton & Chandler’s Ford and is now with OTs & Romsey, made two handy batting contributions – 27 (during a late innings stand of 69) and then 34 - as the Light Blues posted scores of 307 and 257.
Fisher (right) took the wickets of both Cambridge openers in the first innings and finished with a tidy 3-37 return and 2-42 in the second, but Oxford were found wanting with the bat, being dismissed for 129 and then 186.
