James Wade celebrated back-to-back five-wicket hauls as South Wilts seconds gave their prospects of Southern Premier League Division 2 survival a significant boost with a 52-run win over table topping Totton & Eling at Bemerton.
Sharing the limelight with his sibling brother Edward, who made 40, James Wade took 5-32 as Totton were dismissed for 131 in response to South Wilts’ 183.
Wade, who took 5-37 in his previous bowl against Basingstoke, nipped out three of Totton’s top four as the title favourites slumped to 13-4 before Brighton Mugochi (29) and Oli Thomas (20) restored some order.
Will Hewlett (2-28) removed both batsmen before two more Wade strikes sent Totton slithering to 96-8. Dan Collier’s 23 sat least got Totton a batting bonus point.
Earlier, Edward Wade (40) provided the bedrock for South Wilts, who owed much to Stephen Riddell (54) coming in and six (89-4) and seeing the Bemerton club through to a match winning 183.
With Basingstoke & North Hants washed out at neighbours Hartley Wintney, South Wilts now enjoy a 14-point cushion at the SPL2 basement.
