Langley Manor have given their Southern Premier Division 3 promotion prospects a significant boost by signing Jack Campbell, the former Steep and Liphook & Ripsley left-arm pace bowler, following his departure from Durham, where he recently completed a degree course at the city university.
Campbell, 22, had been on Durham's books as a professional, making eight first team appearances and taking eight wickets. The former England U19 international played for Hampshire seconds against Glamorgan last week.
He made a relatively low key debut against Basingstoke & North Hants IIs in round 11, taking one wicket and scoring 29*, but really made his presence felt with a maiden hundred against Paultons.
Campbell, whose batting has never previously been his main forte, hit an unbeaten 114, sparing Langley's blushes as the Manor slid to 113-7 before joining Simon Peters (52) in a century partnership.
Langley Manor reached 238-8 before rushing Paultons out for 119. They lie one point above Sway in the table.
