Havant went out of the ECB Royal London national club championships, despite producing a gallant second innings fight-back against quarter-final winners Weybridge.
They grabbed four Weybridge wickets for ten runs midway through the evening session, but were unable to repair their earlier self-inflicted wounds with either the bat or the ball.
They didn’t bat with any great distinction and were probably 25 runs or so shy of a competitive score after being bowled out for 208.
They then gifted Weybridge 51 runs off the first five overs, with Ben Curran (64) punishing Havant’s short-of-a-length bowling with ten boundaries.
The tie was almost beyond rescue as Weybridge powered on to 140-2 (Tom Winslade 45) when left-arm spinner Chris Morgan (3-27) sparked Havant’s mini four-wicket fight-back, but the visitors overcame their wobble and cruised to a three-wicket win.
Havant 208 (Stone 40, Walker 39, Gibson 30, Turner 4-43) Weybridge 211-7 (Curran 64, Winslade 45, Davey 32*, Mann 28, Morgan 3-27). Weybridge won by three wickets.
Weybridge visit Joe Gatting’s Swardeston in the semi-finals, with Ormiskirk playing either South Northumberland or Chester Boughton Hall.
