Havant will carry the local colours in the national rounds of the ECB Royal London club championship after beating South Wilts by 22 runs in a high scoring regional final at Bemerton.
Richard Hindley (57) top scored as Havant progressed to 143-5, at which point the visitors tended to break away, initially through Chris Stone (39), but significantly when Stuart Ransley (45) and Harry Hovey (43) added 65 to point the total towards an eventual 268-9.
Jake Foley returned 4-43 for South Wilts, who were in the hunt whilst Tom Morton (57) was at the crease.
He steered South Wilts to a threatening 91-1, after which Jack Mynott (53) and James Hayward (34) made their respective marks.
South Wilts reached 221-5 but Havant’s spinners Chris Morgan (3-36) and Hindley (2-42) continued to chip away and eventually the Salisbury club was dismissed for 246.
