New Milton will enjoy a continuation of the bragging rights over long-time rivals Lymington after beating their neighbours by 27-runs in the Southern League Cup Premier/1 West at Fernhill.
George Watts was Milton’s match winner, ripping into Lymington’s fragile top order with a sharp three-wicket new ball burst which had the visitors tottering at 13-3 before Ryan Scott and Cameron Robertson brought some semblance of order to proceedings.
Watts finished with 5-15 - his first nap hand since July 2017 against Burridge – as Lymington were dismissed for 123, 27 runs adrift of New Milton’s 150 all out.
New Milton’s steady start was interrupted when Toby Edwards (20) retired hurt with a knee injury – a situation Josh Royan (4-31) exploited by nipping out three Green & Golds for just one run to leave Milton effectively four down (at 39-3).

Lee Beck (16) and Joe Hall (35) steadied the ship, while Watts (16) himself made a handy contribution before Sway loanee Josh Bailey (3-30) and Jude Tollerfield (3-31) combined to leave New Milton a competitive 150 all out.
Any prospects Lymington had of stealing the local bragging rights disappeared inside of seven overs from Watts, who extracted life from the pitch and took three wickets in quick succession before Dan Loader got Dan Bailey to leave the visitors 37-4.
Scott (45) and Robertson (27) spared Lymington’s blushes, but from 90-4 the innings disintegrated to 123 all out, Ryan Beck and the influential Joe Hall sharing four of the wickets before Watts claimed his fifth.
He received the sanitized match ball from MoM adjudicator, Tony Wharton (a New Milton 1974 Hampshire League title winner), which he’ll doubtless have mounted after it has been in self-isolation for 14 days.
Lymington were the only side New Milton beat in the Green & Gold’s 2018 Premier Division relegation season. Now they’ll enjoy dishing out the friendly banter a while longer ….
