Three county cricketers who spent the embryo stages of their respective careers playing in the ECB Southern Premier League have been called up by England for the upcoming ODI series against Pakistan after the entire first-choice squad was forced to self-isolate two days before the first fixture in Cardiff tomorrow.
They are Ventnor raised Danny Briggs, Gloucestershire left-armer David Payne, who played junior cricket for Parley before helping Bournemouth win the 2009 ECB Cockspur T20 Cup at Derby, and Hampshire captain James Vince, who spent his formative years in the Ageas Bowl Academy.
Ben Stokes will captain England for the first time in limited-overs cricket, returning to international duty ahead of schedule following a finger injury.
England’s matches against Pakistan are at Cardiff, Lord’s and Edgbaston.
