Opening batsman Jake Winter, who made over 500 Southern Premier League runs for South Wilts in 2016, had been set to play against England in Perth last weekend - until a virus ruled him unfit to play.
The 20-year old from Adelaide was been picked to play for a Cricket Australia XI in the drawn two-day match at South Perth’s tree-lined Richardson Park ground.
But he was sent home unwell, missing out on a second Australian national representative selection, the Glenelg talent having played against the Pakistan tourists last winter.
During the past year Winter has continued to impress with South Australia’s Futures League team and at Premier League level with Glenelg.
He made an unbeaten 116 in South Australia’s Futures League opener against Queensland in October and scored back-to-back half-centuries against Victoria .
Ironically, former Totton & Eling all-rounder Will Bosisto took Winter's place and scored a half-century as the CA XI narrowly pulled up short in a frantic second innings run chase.
