Hampshire prospect Felix Organ has been included in the England Under-19 squad for a series of five One Day internationals against India, starting in Cardiff next Monday.
The Winchester-based teenager has been under the England YCs radar for several years, but this is the first time the Academy batting all-rounder has been selected to play for his country.
“I’m really excited and naturally want to do well and put myself in the frame for next year’s ICC Under-19 World Cup tournament in New Zealand,” he smiled.
Organ, who skippers the Hampshire Academy side in the Premier League, has been playing regular second team cricket at the Ageas Bowl for the past two seasons, having featured strongly in Hampshire’s 2015 Under-17 County Championship winning side.
He had regularly captained Hampshire county junior age group sides from 11-years upwards, alongside helping his Winchester club, St Cross Symondians win the ECB Under-15 club championships.
“I’ve mainly played T20 cricket this summer as I was pre-occupied sitting and studying for my A-levels at Canford earlier in the season, but it’s now all systems go and I can’t wait to play for England,” he added.
“It’s a huge honour, one which Tom Alsop, Tom Barber, Brad Taylor and Joe Weatherley have all enjoyed in recent seasons and I’ll be tapping them all up for tips before I join the England party in Cardiff next weekend.”
Organ won’t need too many introductions when he meets up with his England team-mates at the SWALEC Stadium.
“Virtually all of us played in the Super Four’s at Loughborough last season and I’ve been around the EDP scene for a while now, so it will just be a case of renewing old cricketing friendships.,” Organ continued.
After Cardiff, England will play 50-over ODIs against India at Canterbury – a day/night game being televised live on the Sky Sports Cricket Channel – Hove, Bristol and Taunton.
England will be desperate to improve on their performance in the First Under-19 ‘Test’ at Chesterfield last week, where Indian thrashed them by a massive 334-runs.
