It’s been quite a week for George Metzger, the young Basingstoke & North Hants wicketkeeper, whose maiden Premier Division century coincided with his selection for the South & West team to play in next week’s English Schools’ CA Bunbury Under-15 Festival at Stowe School.
Unable to make Basingstoke’s trip to Ventnor, Metzger instead played for the Hampshire Academy and notched a debut making 109 in the 164-run thrashing of New Milton.
Metzger, pictured left by Neil Smith, will be joined at the Bunbury Festival by Fletcha Middleton (who won the batting prize at last year’s tournament) and left-arm all-rounder Tom South.
