A former Hampshire League cricketer who has spent two spells with Purbrook as a teenager could make his debut for South Africa in the opening match of the Sunfoil Test Series against Australia in Durban on Thursday.
Heinrich Klaasen played a handful of games for Purbrook as a 15-year old in his school holidays in 2007, making a century against Highfield, and returned three seasons later to belt 821 County Division 1 runs, including an unbeaten double-century at Midhurst and two other hundreds against Portchester and Burridge II.
Despite his efforts, Purbrook finished below half-way in the table that season, but are now back in the Southern Premier League and set to be skippered by Josh McCoy this summer.
Klaasen, meanwhile, is now a lead player in South African provincial cricket with Titans, having played match winning innings in the recent Johannesburg ODI and Centurion T20 internationals against India.
He is named by South Africa in squads for the opening two Tests against Australia at Durban and then Port Elizabeth.
