Teenage Hampshire leg spinner Mason Crane took 7-121 on the opening day of Gordon’s New South Wales Premier Competition match against North Sydney.
But his efforts proved in vain as North Sydney’s 294 proved a winner at the Chatsworth Oval.
Gordon were dismissed for 225 in reply, Crane (33) batting for over two hours in a brave attempt to spare his side a 69-run defeat.
Across in Adelaide, Hampshire’s Joe Weatherley spent the day toiling in the field as two former Southern Premier League cricketers put the Woodville bowling to the sword.
Ex-Lymington opener Sam Raphael (148) and Sparsholt’s Dan Payne (93) shared a double-century second wicket stand as Adelaide posted 357-4.
Weatherley’s six-over spell of off-spin cost him 35 runs. The two-day match resumes next Saturday.
