Former Saints midfielder Graham Baker (left) and Waterlooville's Martin Shephard (right) spared Hampshire Seniors' blushes with an unbeaten half-century partnership - but the ninth-wicket pair were unable to save their side plunging to a heavy defeat against National Sixties Championship group rivals Sussex at St Helen's, Southsea.
Hampshire tumbled from 42-1 (Neil Trestrail 25) to 100-8 when Baker (35*) and Shephard (24*) came together to produce an innings salvaging 58 run stand and lift the host county to 158-8 off 45 overs.
But Sussex blew the target away with ten overs to spare, Brighton & Hove's Martyn Ford hitting a splendid 91 not out. Sussex top the seven county group, with Hampshire planted in second from bottom place in the log.
