High drama as a Sarisbury Athletic batsman is run out in a desperate attempt to beat Bournemouth in a frantic late run chase. Dave Vokes pictures.
Sarisbury Athletic went down all guns blazing in their bid to prise the Hampshire Under-19 T20 Cup away from Fair Oak, the eventual winners.
They had to beat Bournemouth’s total of 80-8 inside 12 overs to pip Fair Oak on run rate after the Tri-club final ended all square with each team winning one of its games at New Milton’s Fernhill ground.
Led by Fareham & Crofton guest Ollie Southon (30) and Max Hoile (20) they gave it a terrific go, but with Robbie Pack and James March getting amongst the wickets, Sarisbury eventually reached their target in 13.1 overs, a tad too late to deny Fair Oak the bounty.
A top order batting collapse led to Fair Oak losing their opening match against Bournemouth, but they bounced back to post a key 112-6 against Sarisbury – a total which was to prove key in their eventual success.
Hampshire Under-15 duo Fletcha Middleton (43) and Max Watson (37) top scored for Oaks, who rolled Sarisbury out for 62 to win by 50 runs.
Results -
Bournemouth 86-8 (Rob Pack 25, Ollie Breckon 17, Charlie Gwynn 3-19) Fair Oak 72 all out. Bournemouth won by 14 runs.
Fair Oak 112-6 (Fletcha Middleton 43*, Max Watson 37, Gregor McKenzie 3-11, Alex Chessel 3-2)
Sarisbury Athletic 62 (Ollie Southon 18, Luke Perry 2-15, Ben Marshall 2-16). Fair Oak won by 50 runs.
Bournemouth 80-8 (Ollie Breckon 17, Luke Perry 2-12, Ollie Southon 2-12) Sarisbury Athletic 84-9 (Ollie Southon 30, Max Hoile 20, Rob Pack 3-18, James March 2-20).
