Tom Kent [left] and Craig Jeffery shared a 167-run opening partnership to set up a crushing eight-wicket win for Fareham & Crofton over fellow Premier 3 strugglers Bashley (Rydal) seconds at the Fagan Fields.
Stand-in captain Kent made 74 and South African Jeffery 86 as Fareham chased down Bashley’s 218 all out to win with four overs to spare.
It was Fareham’s second consecutive win and lifts them off the Division 3 basement.
The opening pair hit 23 boundaries between them, Kent prospering with on-side shots and Cape Town spin all-rounder Jeffery driving sweetly and seizing on anything short of a length.
Kent was dismissed at 167 while a language mix-up with Jez Bulled (27 not out) led to the 22-year old Afrikaans speaking Jeffery being denied a maiden SPL century. [The writer is unaware what yes, no, sorry is in Afrikaans].
Jeffery earlier took 3-46, while Jack Harris (88) held the Bashley innings together before being run out attempting a bye off the last ball of the innings. Connor Clark and Dan Reader took two Bashley wickets each.
