Hythe & Dibden’s 33-run Waterside derby win over Fawley took a dramatic turn in mid-innings when Sufian Munir began to run out of partners.
While Munir and Jon Lush (41) were together at 144-2, Fawley looked as though they might pass Hythe’s 242-4; indeed, all the time Munir remained at the crease the threat was considerable.
Munir eventually fell for a classy 103 (4 sixes and 11 fours) at 195-7, after which Hythe lost their last three wickets for 14 runs, Andy Wakely (4-13) and Wayne Royan (3-50) doing the damage.
Hythe’s 242-4 was built around an opening stand of 81 between Tom Gates (49) and Tom Richards (79), who subsequently enjoyed fruitful stands with Zac Millar (28) and Craig Stow (34).
Third placed Trojans cruised a ten-wicket win at Lymington, where Bryanston head boy Cam Robertson (51) was the only home batsman to contain Jack Longman (5-29).
Back on familiar soil, Syed Agha (77) and Ed Boyd (54) polished off the target.
Portsmouth & Southsea inched their way out of the drop zone with a four wicket win over Purbrook, whose 156 all out was underpinned by Clark Harding’s 53. Oli Kanavan (34) and Matt Benfield (29) top scored in the P & S run chase.
