Richard Hindley and Chris Stone hit half-centuries before Richard Jerry celebrated his maiden five-wicket haul for Havant, who eased to a 122-run win at Alton – the Brewers suffering a fourth defeat in their last six games.
The 35th fifty of Hindley’s SPL career began on the second ball of the match, Peter Hopson having gone for a golden duck, the first of four victims for swing merchant Ben Mortimer (4-37)
The third-wicket stand between Hindley (50) and Stone (59), aided by lively 45 from Jez Bulled, enabled Havant to reach 208-8.
Julian Ballinger chipped away, taking 4-73 and taking his season’s tally to 32 wickets.
Alton, with former Northampton Saints batsman Dan Harris wearing the captain’s armband, fell apart against Jerry (5-17), who struck three times early on as the Brewers lurched to 31-5.
Left-arm spinner Chris Morgan (3-15) and Cam Prentice (2-17) took the remaining five wickets, with Scott Myers top scoring with 30 in Alton’s 86 all out. He earlier had three dismissals in his stand-in wicket-keeping role.
