Pat Pocock, who played for Surrey and England, will be the guest speaker at the Dorset Cricket Society at Christchurch FC, Hurn Bridge, on Thursday, 1.45pm, so please advise any friends who might be interested to provide a bumper audience.
Past was a distinguished Surrey and England Cricketer whose career spanned the years from 1964 to 1986.An effective off-spinner he took 1607 first-class wickets –figures which contained an extraordinary spell of 7 wickets in 11 balls v Sussex in 1972. He was instrumental in Surrey’s successes in the County Championship in 1971 and the Nat West Trophy in 1982. He skippered the county in his final season. His 20 Tests for England (plus 1 ODI) were spread over the years between 1968 and 1985. His experiences in an era when England was very well-stocked with quality slow bowlers and Test selection was haphazard should make for a fascinating afternoon.
