Former England right-arm medium-fast bowler Dean Headley is the Dorset Cricket Society's guest speaker at Hurn Bridge Social Club (aka Christchurch FC) on Thursday, 1.45pm.
Domestically he played for Middlesex, Kent and Worcestershire, In September 1996, he equalled a world record by taking three hat-tricks in a single English county season. He achieved this feat against Hampshire in Canterbury.
He was selected 15 times for England. One of his greatest moments was when he won the Man of the Match award for his performance in the 4th Ashes Test in 1998 at Melbourne: Australia was making light work of chasing a target of 175, before Headley took four wickets in three overs to reduce Australia from 130/3 to 140/7; he finished with 6/60 in the innings and England won by 12 runs, their only Test victory on that tour.Due to injury he retired from cricket in 2001.
Headley is now an ECB match referee and the current director of cricket at Blundell's School. By all accounts, he is an excellent speaker. Why not pop along ?
