Former Havant all-rounder Andy Gorvin is playing a lead role in St Fagan’s winning the ECB South Wales Premier League title.
He has so far scored 347 runs and taken 29 wickets (joint top in the division) for the Cardiff-based club, for whom South Wilts’ all-rounder Rob Franklin played as a youngster.
Gorvin had a day to remember in only his second Minor Counties Championship match for Wales against Dorset at North Perrott.
After Bournemouth’s Luke Webb had made 161 and Scott Currie 67 in Dorset’s 340-5, Gorvin rescued Wales from the depths of 156-9 (Bradley Currie 4-60), with 73. Wales recovered to post 248, but Dorset’s 92-run first innings lead was dramatically weakened when Gorvin (5-17) exploded back on the scene to take all five wickets as Webb’s side sank to 47-5. An intriguing final day is in prospect.
