Taking wickets at crucial times proved key for Paultons, who clung on to their three-match unbeaten start to the Premier Division 3 season with a too close for comfort nine-run win over Langley Manor at Knellers Lane.
Paultons posted a healthy 242-9, but at 180-4 (Jack Budd 47) and James Purnell (50) and Steve Harris (27) at the crease the Manor probably fancied their chances. But all that changed when they were both dismissed in quick succession and 180-6 did not look quite so promising.
But when Simon Peters is still about, anything can happen. He hit a brisk 37 and threatened to take the game away from Paultons. To the visitors’ relief Simon Ennew stumped him off left-armer Andrew Denny and Langley Manor lost their last three wickets for seven runs. They were 233 all out.
Earlier, Paul Longland (50) and Robbie Pike (30) steered Paultons to 87-1, a position Andrew Collins (55) and Ennew (20) improved. Peters returned 3-40.
