FOUR-WICKET JOSH BALCOMBE IS EPP SPIN DOCTOR

Little leggie Josh Balcombe took four wickets for only five runs as Hampshire’s EPP side bowled South East Hants out for an all-time low 23 in the NatWest Under-16 Indoor League at the Ageas Bowl.
The Yateley youngster thrived on turn and bounce, three of his victims being stumped by Bashley (Rydal) prospect Patrick Lewis, who ended up with four dismissals.
The EPP took three overs to complete a six-wicket win.
But it wasn’t all plain sailing for the county prospects, who were sent spinning to a three-wicket defeat by Hook & Newnham Basics.
Bashley’s George Pardoe (35 not out), and Portsmouth Grammar School pair Alex Willoughby (26) and Joe Kooner-Evans (22) eased the EPP to 139-4 (Rupert Armstrong 2-30).
But led by Liam Doran (36 not out) and Ollie Hewetson-Brown (27), Hook raced to victory with seven balls to spare.
Hook then proceeded to lose to South East Hants by two runs – the game twisting and turning throughout.
Oli Wright (26) and Dam Wimble (21) top scored as SE Hants posted 124-4 – a target Hook struggled to get directly their openers went cheaply.
Oli Hall (20) and Liam Shore (18) lifted Hook from 71-4 to 119-5, but a stumping off the third ball of the final over left the Basingstoke side two runs adrift at 122 all out.
