Bashley (Rydal) seconds lost their first four wickets with a single run on the board – yet still managed to pull off an astonishing last ball victory over South Wilts II in a nail biting Southern Premier Division 2 bottom-of-the-table affair at Bemerton.
South Wilts, defending 165 all out, were cock-a-hoop after two wickets each by Matt Falconer (2-35) and Nick Partridge (2-21) left Bashley nought for four.
But an amazing fightback led by Rhodes Franklin (pictured) and supported initially by Ben Francis (31) turned the match on its head in quite dramatic fashion.
The pair put on 95 but after Francis had been bowled by James Brewer (2-36) it was largely down to Franklin.
The Hook & Newnham Basics raised spin all-rounder, who plays for Bashley to coincide with his studies at Bournemouth University, added another 37 with Saif Achakzai (12) to inch the score to 132-7.
Consecutive stumpings by Sam Pittman left Bashley 151-9 but, with skipper Sean Read as his last gasp partner, Franklin powered on, bringing up his century – he finished with 106 not out – as the visitors scrambled an amazing one-wicket victory off the last ball.
Bashley needed 13 off the last over, which went dot, 6, 1, 1, 4 and 4 ...
Earlier, George Edwards (60) held South Wilts together as the side recovered from 64-5 (Falconer 30) to post 165, Sam Pittman hitting 25 not out and relieved skipper Read taking 3-35 for the eventual winners.
