The swashbuckling 116 not out Fraser Hay struck for Melville against Wanneroo in the WACA Premiership First Grade in Perth last weekend coincided with an offer of a 2017 summer contract to play for Hampshire.
The 20-year old, who was Portsmouth's overseas player in Southern Premier League Division 1 this past season, lashed nine sixes and eight fours in a blistering attack on the Wanneroo bowlers.  He shared a 150-plus stand with Australia's Adam Voges before Melville narrowly defended 295-5 to win by four runs.
Hay, who has a UK passport and is therefore eligible to play county cricket, made 664 runs (including a highest 159 against Bournemouth) and took 26 wickets for Portsmouth.  He made over 750 runs for Hampshire second team.
