Burridge, last season’s runners-up, finished sixth in the British Gas Southern Premier Division after a four-wicket beating by Alton, who chased down their hosts’ 199 with seven balls to spare.
Alton picked up the two bowling points they needed to avert any relegation threat and had Burridge in some difficulty at 80-5 before one-time Hampshire all-rounder Lee Savident (36) took a hand.
Two of the younger players went on to catch the eye – and make top score for their respective teams.
Portsmouth Grammar’s Alex Willoughby (42) helped Burridge on to an eventual 199 (Mark Heffernan (3-15), after which 16-year old Alton opener Abhay Gonella, pictured, (50) batted with assurance to make his maiden SPL fifty. A Guildford RGS all-rounder, Gonella joined Alton from Sunbury in mid-season.
A three-wicket haul by Southampton Solent University left-arm spinner Brighton Mugochi (3-39) caused a flutter or two, but skipper Scott Myers hit an unbeaten 46 to guide the Brewers to a third win this season over Burridge.
