Left-armer Tom Grant is top of the ECB Southern Premier Divison bowling charts after a 6-32 return which swept South Wilts to an eight-wicket win over basement club Alton at Bemerton.
It was his third significant return in South Wilts' recent matches, following five-wicket hauls against Lymington and Burridge last month.
The victory nudged South Wilts into third place in the Premier Division table, the situation at the top having changed dramatically with champions St Cross Symondians suffering a second consecutive defeat.
At the halfway point of the season, South Wilts lie 21 points behind the leaders ahead of the start of the 'back nine' of the 18-week programme against Totton & Eling on Saturday, 11am.
Only Scott Myers (30) and Mark Heffernan (29) made meaningful contributions as Alton lost four wickets for 15 runs from 94-4 - Grant slicing through the lower-order with his best SPL return. Alton were 135 all out.
Grant took the last four Alton wickets to raise his tally for the season to 22, two more than St Cross Symondians left-armer Charlie Gwynn and Alton’s Bash Walters.
An unbeaten half-century by James Degg (55), who shared a 67-run launch with Jack Stearman (27), pointed South Wilts towards a comfortable victory.
He then added another 62 with Peter Rowe (33 not out) to guide South Wilts home in the 35th over.
