Scott Myers was Alton’s match winning hero for the second consecutive week, following up his undefeated century against Rowledge with an equally impressive 83 which set up a thrilling three-wicket win over Portsmouth, which went to the proverbial wire.
The Brewers got in with two balls to spare, South African Bash Walters hitting the winning runs off Joe Kooner-Evans, having struck his previous delivery to the boundary.
Chasing Portsmouth’s 214, Alton lost Abhay Gonella for a third ball duck and then Huw Wheeler at 27.
Dan Harris (53) steadied the ship before Myers and Michael Heffernan (28) eased them 188-5, both batsmen departing within four runs of each other. Myers’ 83 contained a six and nine fours.
Alton lost four wickets for 17 runs – Ashan Silva (3-46) - as the match built up to a climax – Walters eventually getting them across the line.
Portsmouth skipper Ben Duggan was one of the wickets to fall as his side plunged to 50-4.
There followed an 83-run stand for the fifth wicket between Minhaj Jalill (49) and wicket-keeper Sujeeth Daini (41) Portsmouth Grammar School’s Zach Gadsby’s 4-37 haul included the wicket of Daini.
