Fareham & Crofton's bowlers lost their sense of direction in incredible fashion as they plunged to a 130-run Southern Premier League Division Three defeat against Hambledon at Ridge Meadow.
They conceded a whopping 70 extras including bowling 53 wides, with Dan Wimble the worst culprit.
Wimble was way off radar bowling 16 wides and two no balls – the wheels coming off in dramatic fashion as Fareham’s out-cricket fell to pieces.
Amidst the chaos Hambledon posted a mammoth 362-8, with left-hander George Marshall (154* - 22 fours) and Portsmouth Grammar School’s Alex Willoughby (80) punishing the wayward bowling.
The pair piled on 168 before Australian James Heiniger restored some respectability to an otherwise shambolic day with an unbeaten 103 as Fareham responded with 232-8 (Chris Davey 35).
It was a fourth successive win for Spencer Le Clerq's side, who lie second in the log behind Bashley (Rydal).
A five-wicket haul by Trevor Booker (5-42) followed by an Ed Primmer half-century carried third placed Tichborne Park to a seven-wicket win over Portsmouth & Southsea, who have made an undistinguished start with four defeats in five.
P & S, who were expected to be among the front runners, were bowled out for 120 (Jack Davies 35) in less than 30 overs, Will Allam (3-22) supporting Booker. Primmer (53) and Queenslander Lachlan Jess (30) completed the formalities.
Purbrook’s thumping 188-run win at Hythe & Dibden was arguably their best of the season, but it wasn't plain sailing at first. They wobbled at 48-3 (Craig Stow 2-33) but Sean Figgins (59) and Clark Harding (76) steadied the ship, Harding hitting a six and ten fours as Purbrook progressed to a formidable 290-9, Brad Mengham cracking 29 off 22 balls. Hythe never got going and were whisked out for 102, Aaron Dean (4-39) and Martin Lee (4-1) sharing eight of the wickets.
